Aakenustunturi and The Snoring Blue Mussels

Kuva
Aakenustunturi, Kittilä We decided to take a rather spontaneous get-away with my girlfriends. And I have to admit, I have never been so poorly prepared for an adventure. With all the wonderful art projects keeping me occupied, which I'm, believe it or not, getting payed for, the preparation for the over night winter adventure went so, that the evening before I run to the shop to buy food supplies and on the morning we were supposed to go, I start packing at 6 am, which included just mustering everything up in unorganized piles, wondering where is my backpack and finally finding it from the basement. All it while fearing I would forget something important and would be caring too much unnecessary things with me.   But as we started to drive towards Kittilä and the day started to break, all the anxiousness melted away. The adventure truly begun, when we realized the road and the parking lot, we were planing to use, where not winter maintained. We were lucky for our four wheel drive an...

Peurakuru - The Fight to Get There

Kuva
Peurakuru canyon ( Deer Canyon ) is a magical place. So I heard many years ago. It is located at Pyhätunturi fell area between the lesser peaks Peurakero and Laakakero. The most beautiful canyon of the region, they say, and far away from the touristic easy-access places. So it came a must-visit place for me. It turned out to be almost an impossible place to reach. It actually took me two years and three different adventure entourages to finally get there. So let's go back to the year 2018, when it all started. Our first attempt to visit Peurakuru was in April 2018. Our adventure entourage, me,Viking and Mr. Patzi, started from Luosto and the plan was to ski all the way to Pyhä. It was a three day adventure and on the third day we reached Peurakero peak. It was total whiteout. The clouds were hanging so low, we could not see two metres ahead of us. We didn't know where was up and down. Only whiteness. everywhere. The GPS showed us, the Peurakuru canyon would lay somewhere ahead....

Kuva
Tuntsa - Naruska When I was invited to the big adventure like this, I didn't hesitate. I said yes, on the middle of the invitation. 6 days In the middle of the real wilderness Hiking and hunting The plan was to hike about 20 km per day. Sleep at the wilderness and rental huts. At the day time travel independently  and meet my adventure companion in the evening at the next hut. Perfect! The first day brought me back to the ground quite nicely. I read the map wrongly and got lost on the first kilometres. After finding to the correct meeting point, where my mentor had waited for me for one and half hours, he suggested, that rest of the day I could walk on the market hiking trail. I was so ashamed, but I felt I totally deserved it. So rest of the 13 km I walked to the trail, which turned out to be quite good choice. Walking 20 km, with a heavy back bag and heavy shotgun, wasn't easy. I realized that I had been on this kind of hike last time few years ago on my Camino. When I had st...
