My Northern Home

I had some difficulties to decide how to write this story. And I'm still struggling to find the right words to describe the feelings I'm going through. After a long time I made a road trip to Savo . This beautiful lake side paradise of Finland , where I had spend almost two decades of my life. Experiencing the growing pains of the late childhood and beginning of the adulthood. Visiting there has always made me feel little bit uneasy, but the company of my friends  has made it always more easy. This time though, the power of already forgotten emotions took me as a surprise. I was truly exited about the trip. I made travel plans, reading the maps and finding information about cool nature locations. My plan was to drive smaller roads and stop by at interesting and new places. In reality, I was tired from driving, darkness was falling down way too quickly, car was nice and warm, the road was still long ahead of me and I would have liked to be there already. For a some time now I have had this idea to write about the backyard adventures. How people too often want to travel far away to experience exotic things, which they feel they can value. So they can have a feeling of getting something better (than ordinary) out of their life. Now, due the exceptional times we are living, it feels like there wouldn't be better time for this topic. I collected here some pictures from my backyard adventures. And don't get me wrong. Some of the pics are literally from my backyard, but all of them are from my hometown, as I count my hometown and it's forests as my backyard. I have said it already before and will say it again. Why go further into the sea for fish? Sure it is sometime nice to see exotic places. To have some perspective. To experience the high mountains and moist fertile forests, which we don't have here in Finland. But all this fuss about foreign places, ...

Okey okey, the title is exaggerating. I didn't post here a thousand pictures. I posted twelve. So no worries, this is not that long post. These pictures are from our first adventure with the sun, after the long polar night had ended. So obviously, unconsciously, all my pictures from this adventure are about the sun and the light. Meeting the sun again. After so many sunless (and in this winter case, grey cloudy days) Feels amazing. It's like seeing your dear friend after a long time.  You realize how much you have mist it. So you are just standing in the cold winter air and felling the sun rays dancing warmly on your skin. You start to smile. Feeling a moment of extreme happiness. Many people ask me, how can I live here in the north, where there is no sun in winter time. And I always tell them, that the polar night is my favorite time of the year. This might have something to do with my grim northern heritage ...
