A Viking Chemise - Learning New Things

Kuva
In the beginning I want to say, this is not going to be a sewing tutorial. I'm not going to teach you how the hand sew a chemise. How ever, if you want to sew your own hang-around-home gown, you should visit Mrs. Morgan Donner's youtube chanel . That's were I got the information needed for this projects. And she is a good teacher and a fun personality. So that been said, here I will share some pictures from my sewing journey along with the thoughts I had on the way.   The whole idea has been on my mind for a while now. Some of you might know,  that I'm into the whole viking re-enactment thing and have been doing quite well, for several years now, with my first ever machine sewn viking outfit, which is made from an old curtain bought from a second-hand store along with the old lamb skin vest I got from my grand mom. And I have been, and still are, really proud of the costume. Picture by Monica Nordling Some people I have over heard saying, that you can't be truly par...

Alma Harmaa - The Dance Production

Kuva
Picture Juhamatti Julkunen It has now been one week sense the shows. I'm still wrapping my head around everything that happened. Being a part of the working crew, was a huge privileged for me and I want to believe it shall open some new doors for me. Guide me on a new path in life. I'm hopeful and little bit scared. Hopeful for it will give me new opportunities on my career and working with things I actually want to work for. And scared for if it's not going to work and I would need go back to the old path. To the path I ended up accidentally and unintentionally in the first place. I really really don't want to go back there. Picture Juhamatti Julkunen About the dance production. It all started, when I happened to mention to the artistic director, Miikka Ryytty , that I would love to write a book.  Where he asked,  if I would first like to write a script for the dance production and make a book after that. We agreed. I didn't have any clue about writing a real scrip...

Pappilanniemi - The Small Wonders

The weirdest thing happened to us. The day before everything was fine. More than fine. I felt myself invincible. I was climbing like a monkey. Sending road after road. I was riding the tide. What the day after brought us was... We both came sick. Like really sick. Midday after lunch. I felt awful and needed to go to bed. AK send me message from the work. "How are you? I'm not good." That night and the days to follow, we lied in our bed. Eyes closed, hand in hand, we waited for the pain to stop. Only help we could get, was that they tested us for covid-19. It wasn't covid. So bye-bye and try no manage by yourself. On those long hours, when we waited, will the painkillers stay inside long enough to start effecting and if so, will they work this time and for how long before the pain comes back. We still don't know what the disease was or where we got it. But it was definitely the worst we have ever went through. And there were moments when, I swear to gods, we were h...

Mushroom Mania

Kuva
The plan was to go for a hike. And maybe spot some new rocks to climb. And have a picnic on top of the hill, of course. As it is the harvest time in forest and berries and mushrooms are ready to pick, I packed a fabric bag and my mushroom knife, just in case we would find some. Little did we know. The warm rains had made it. The forest was full of mushrooms. And I'm not exaggerating. Like really Full Of Them. First we picked what we found, but the amount of mushrooms was so overwhelming, that in a while we grew more selective. It was hard to decide which to pick and to what direction to go for them. Eventually, the mushroom mania hit us. We end up wondering around the hill sides for five hours. This of course included long and nice picnic on the top, including, among others, carrot cake muffins and home made pizza slices. In that moment life felt just perfect. We have saying in Finland "tulee kuin sieniä sateella" Meaning, that something will "come as mushrooms in t...

In these times of isolation and uncertainty, the social contacts we can have, come more valuable. I feel, that one can't survive without any. Sure you can phone your sister the other end of the country, or Whatsapp your friends around the globe. But it can't give the same, as a shared cup of tea. As many other, I have minimized my social contacts. And I have come more grateful for them. And for, that it is still possible for us to go outside to share that cup of tea. And laugh away all the agony of the world situation. This time me and my most dear French friend went to explore Hirviäkuru canyon at Pittiövaara hill. I have been here many times (here is the link to my previous adventure in this place) , as the place is literally on my backyard, but still this was my first time down in the canyon at winter time. The snow cover made everything look totally different. We wondered everything around us. T...
