From The Pinnacle To The Pit

 "You have the power
You wear the crown
From the pinnacle
To the pit"

- Ghost-

It was agreed to be just a small evening walk.
Nothing major.
Just some fresh air with autumn colors.
Nice possibility to go check those two small nameless canyons
next to Hirviäkuru canyon, where we have been so many times.

It turn out to be an unexpected adventure.
For three hours we explored those canyons,
those, which let you expect nothing on the map.

Good reminder for us,
how the smallest things,
can turn out to be a mind blowing experiences.

The autumn colors,
or ruska as it is called in Finland,
was on it's best.
The whole forest in flaming red and orange.

Autumn is definitely one of my favorite times of the year.
Although I think I say this at beginning of every season.

Walking deeper in to the forest,
bigger and bigger rock formations greeted us.
Old kelo trees lying where they had ones felled.

At the side of the first small canyon
we found a small cave with a fire place.
Something has definitely been living here.
Or could the inhabitant of the cave still be somewhere around?
Quietly watching us go.

At the east wall of the Pittiövaara hill's Järvilaki (Laketop)
we came a cross with a mining side.
Most likely there has been done some collection
of the mineral samples from the ground.

Still it was kind of hopeless scene
to see this wide and wide area of forest turned upside down.
I stay wondering,
does some code exist for
how the mining companies are allowed to leave the scene after them.
Will somebody clean up here?

In any case,
the northern nature will reforms itself super slowly
if at all.

We leave the mining side behind us
and continue to the next canyon.

Suddenly,
we stood on the edge of the huge pit.
Looking more closely,
we realize, that the canyon,
which goes down the east wall of the hill,
is formed from separate pits.
Between every pit is a bridge connecting the canyon walls.

Standing on the edge of the first and deepest pit,
is amazing experience.
On the bottom of the pit,
far below me,
I can see collection of bones and poison green mosh.

It's a long way down,
I'm thinking.

"It is a long way down

You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down
You are cast out from the heavens to the ground
Blackened feathers falling down
You will wear your independence like a crown"

I start humming the Ghost song.

Climbing down to the bottom of the pit,
feels like going to the nest of the forest monster.
The atmosphere is creeping and fascinating.

The poison green mosh is sinking
and feels like something is trying to pull us down beneath the pit floor.
I leave half of my muesli bar to the pit,
just in case,
for our freedom to leave.

We start following the canyon from the bottom.
Climbing over those bridges
and climbing down to the next pit.
Until the canyon leads us back to the flaming colored forest.

Walking back up,
following the canyon edge,
we find a tree,
with giant claw scratching marks.
The monster has definitely been here too.

Even though the dusk is wrapping everything for the night,
the last sun rays come from the clouds
and set the trees next to our car on fire.

We are exited, tired
and extremely happy.

This was,
unexpectedly,
one of the most amazing adventures of the season.
